Black Labrador Retriever - Large - Young - Male - Dog - Ancho
Description
Ancho originally came to us as part of a Stop the Cycle litter back in April 2009 (the last photo is his baby picture). He has been with us so long because he developed what the vet suspects was juvenile Cushing's disease, an endocrine disorder, which caused symptoms like lethargy, irritability, andclumsiness. He appears to be growing out of it; his blood work is normalizing, and good diet plus nutritional suppliments until he is fully grown should keep him healthy and on track. Ancho is now ready to find a forever home that will continue to feed him high-quality large-breed puppy food and provide him with all the nutrition and love he needs to grow into a healthy, happy adult dog. Ancho's mother, who was spayed by Forget Me Not when we took in her litter, is a black lab/shepherd mix. The black lab influence is clear in Ancho! He was born February 17 and is already about 60 pounds; he will be a large dog when fully grown (look at those big paws!) Ancho is a devoted and smart dog, who will benefit from a calm home with older children, or a home with just adults. He seems to enjoy other dogs, but would also be OK as an only dog. He would benefit from regular, consistent training, and will need someone who can afford to provide a fine diet and who will monitor his health closely to keep him on track; this may include quarterly blood tests to chart his progress, or your vet may recommend testing only if improvement stops or reverses. Older dogs, or dogs with special needs like Ancho, are always placed with a 30-day trial adoption period, to give people and pet enough time to get to know each other and learn how to communicate. After we receive your application, we will give you a call to discuss him in more detail. He is really hoping for that special person or family who can save him from shelter life! Are you the one? Neuter and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption donation (minimum $45; more gratefully accepted!) Any additional photos can be seen at http://www.forgetmenotshelter.org/Dogs - click on the pet's individual listing. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the online application at http://www.forgetmenotshelter.org/Application. If you have any trouble with the application, please email us at the contact email listed, and we will send you a Microsoft Word format application. After we finish the preapproval process, we can make an appointment for you to meet the pet, or if you are sure this is the pet for you, we can go ahead and make a placement offer.
